When crossflow cooling tower is in operation, the airflow is perpendicular to the water flow. The air comes in contact with the PVC fillings while the water flows through the PVC fillings by means of gravity, then the fan exhausts the humid air from the cooling tower to the atmosphere. The heat dispersing material approaches the water basin creating an advantage of reducing the noise of water droplets. The crossflow method is commonly used in square shaped cooling towers. However, there are a large amount of steel sheets fastened in the structure, thus its cost is higher than that of round cooling towers.
